Last Tuesday we held our portrait competition and had 14 members enter high quality images. Their was good competition in each category with so many standout shots, we even had close competition among each entrants set of 3 images. We decided previously that portraits could be of people or pets, indoors, outdoors, formal, candid or environmental. This meant that all members had the opportunity to enter without the need for expensive studio equipment
The following are the winning shots and you will see that are are all very different, the first shot was taken by Keith Turk and it is a beautiful candid image with a shallow depth of field, which keeps the focus on the little girl. The second image is taken by Julie Brown and is more a photojournalist style portrait which captivated the club members, there is so much going on in the image that you just want to keep looking at it. The last winning image was taken by Joanne Strom and is a setup image using artificial light from an off camera speed light, which created very dramatic lighting.
Beginner Winner – Keith Turk
Intermediate Winner – Julie Brown
Advanced Winner – Joanne Strom
